How Mural describes itself

Mural leads with AI and facilitation craft, pitching an AI-powered visual workspace for workshops, retros, design sprints and brainstorms on an infinite canvas. The July 2026 release swapped Mural AI's open-ended prompt box for guided workflows — structured actions for ideas, diagrams, summaries and rewrites — with Classify still sorting sticky notes by emotional tone.

Our take

Mural is still the most polished facilitation canvas on the market, and some of that polish is genuinely retro-relevant: votes are anonymous by default, Private Mode can keep sticky authors hidden even after the reveal, and Outline turns a sprawling board into a walkable agenda. Enterprise posture is first-class — SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, SSO, SCIM, and NA/EU/APAC residency on Enterprise.

The gaps are structural rather than incidental. There are no health checks, no recurring retros, no action carryover, no cross-team rollup; Mural's own retro page names eight templates, and anything beyond them you rebuild each sprint. July's AI redesign made the AI easier to invoke but no smarter about retros — it clusters, summarises and reads tone inside one session and tracks nothing across sprints. The public API works, though its changelog stops in 2023, and the MCP server remains early-access beta.

Best for design and agile-coaching teams who already prize facilitation craft. Overkill for a fortnightly sticky-note retro.
