Re-checked 3 August 2026: the site, app and paid plans all work — a test anonymous retro created and ran fine, the Individual/Company plans are still purchasable at $10 and $20/team/mo, and the homepage retro counter moved from ~984K to 993,316 in a month. But nothing has shipped visibly in years: the blog at blog.retrotool.io stops at 25 March 2022 (five posts, no changelog or release notes), the privacy policy and terms of use both still read 'Last update: 30th August 2020', and the sitemap is the same 12 core product/auth/legal URLs as last pass. In-app and blog copyright lines read 2026, and parent agency u2i still links RetroTool from its own header and footer — so this is maintained hosting, not an abandoned project.
Best for: Small or ad-hoc teams who want a free, no-signup retro board with secret voting and a few standard templates — provided you're comfortable using a tool that hasn't shipped visible updates in years.

Three templates (Mad/Sad/Glad, Start/Stop/Continue, Liked/Learned/Lacked) plus a blank board are free, and anonymous use is pitched as free forever. Paid tiers — $10/team/mo Individual (3 teams), $20/team/mo Company (unlimited teams), both with a 90-day trial and a 15%+ annual discount — target scrum masters running several teams, adding the advanced templates, private invite-only boards and zero-knowledge encryption.
RetroTool is a focused, no-nonsense board for the simplest possible retro: stickies drafted in a per-person Private Section, drag-to-group, secret-ballot dot voting with per-board/column/card limits, a timer, and action points with an owner and due date. For an ad-hoc team needing one session this week without procurement, it's hard to beat.
It sits outside the lens serious agile programs care about: no health checks, no recurring cadence, no cross-team rollups, no AI, no integrations with Jira, Slack or Teams. Export is Markdown only — plain or Confluence-flavoured. Enterprise buyers will bounce off the missing SSO, SCIM, audit logs and SOC 2. Flat per-team pricing with unlimited members is the real bargain.
The dormancy is the caveat. Nothing has shipped visibly in years — the blog stopped in March 2022, the legal pages still read August 2020 — yet a test retro ran fine on 3 August 2026, the paid plans are still purchasable, and the retro counter climbed ~9,000 in a month. A stable utility, not an evolving tool: small team, one-off retro, tight budget.
